How Does SEO Work?

SEO is a way to rank higher on search engines like Google, bing, yahoo, even amazon has their own SEO. Having good SEO will make sure your website shows up higher on search pages that relate to your website. Showing up on the first search page is important because most consumers don’t go past the first page when looking for products or services. So ranking high is a great way to improve search visibility, organic, and relevant traffic to your website. There are multiple algorithms that search engines use to rank your website. Search engines use crawlers on your website and index it. Once in their index they take in hundreds of ranking factors to determine what page you should appear on in search results. Search engines want to make sure you are the best match to answer a user's question, with a good trust factor as well.

The most important elements of an SEO strategy

There are tons of things you can do to help build your SEO. But not all strategies and techniques are created equal by google or other search engines. Meaning you can damage your SEO ranking by cutting corners or back- linking to low trust websites. The google algorithm changes about 500-600 times annually, so keeping up can with new techniques can be a challenge.

On-page SEO

On-page SEO also referred to as on site SEO, is using techniques and strategies to optimise parts of your web site. This involves using certain keywords on specific elements on your page. Optimising titles, headings, and content is a great place to start. When the search engine crawls your website and sees these keywords you will rank higher for those keywords to bring relevant traffic when people use those words in search.

Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO, refers to techniques and strategies focused on promoting your website and brand around the web. There are tons of tactics used to do this but the core of off-page SEO is creating valuable backlinks. An example of this is when a news or blog article talks about you and links back to your website. This would be considered a high quality back link as long as the website linking to you is high quality and credible. You can hurt your SEO by getting back links from low quality websites.

Conclusion

Getting a higher SEO rank for your website is a timely process. It takes a combination of using  different strategies correctly to continue ranking higher or to stay at the rank you want. But on-page and off-page SEO will get your company headed in the right direction.
